It’s official: Air conditioning giant Carrier Global is telling the world its headquarters is in Palm Beach Gardens.

Amid a corporate reshuffling, Carrier has been tight-lipped about the location of its home office. But Carrier’s recent filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission show Palm Beach Gardens as its headquarters, and a company news release Wednesday used Palm Beach Gardens as a dateline.

The news gives Palm Beach County economic boosters a corporate coup to boast about. Carrier reported sales of $18.6 billion in 2019, a total that would place it firmly in the Fortune 500.

Juno Beach-based NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) is the county’s largest company. The parent of Florida Power & Light reported revenue of $19.2 billion -- meaning Carrier is a close second, and well ahead of the county’s other Fortune 500 headquarters, Boca Raton’s Office Depot.

Carrier has 600 employees at its home office in Palm Beach Gardens, a company spokeswoman said.

Carrier long was a unit of United Technologies (NYSE: UTX). But the Connecticut conglomerate said in 2018 that it would split its sprawling empire -- including Pratt & Whitney jet engines, Otis elevators and Carrier -- into separate units.

Palm Beach County officials assumed that Carrier would land here. After all, United Technologies built a palatial new Center for Intelligent Buildings at the corner of Interstate 95 and Donald Ross Road.

Carrier’s revenue of $18.6 billion in 2019 was down slightly from $18.9 billion in 2018.

Carrier’s formal address is 13995 Pasteur Blvd., a street name that hearkens to the days when Palm Beach County leaders thought the Scripps Florida labs across the street would spur a cluster of pharmaceutical plants and biotech startups.

Carrier is best known for heating, ventilating and air conditioning, but it also sells refrigeration, security and building automation technologies.
