Luke Combs will play the annual Military Appreciation Day concert at The Players Championship this year, joining a long list of country stars who’ve played on the famed 17th hole.

He’s a rising star on the country scene but a bit of a curious choice, considering the show is outdoors and his biggest hits are “Hurricane” and “When it Rains it Pours.”

The show will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Stadium Course’s 17th hole. The show is free for anyone who has a ticket to the tournament that day. Tickets for Tuesday’s practice rounds are $25. Active duty military, Reserves, military retirees and dependents get into the tournament free all week.

Combs, out of Asheville, N.C., was named Billboard’s Top New Country Artist last year. His debut album, “This One’s for You,” went gold and spawned two No. 1 hits.

He’s the latest in a long line of country stars who have performed at the event, including Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, Big & Rich, Toby Keith and Sam Hunt.

The Players runs May 8-13. Tickets are available at
