Debbie Fugate of Port Orange emailed us with some good news following Hurricane Irma. As the hurricane approached Florida, Fugate put most of her potted plants in her garage.

“I was pleasantly surprised to see my night blooming Cerus had opened up in the garage during the night,” she said. “Raging winds and rain and she was safe and giving me beautiful blooms."

Meanwhile, Nancy Pastor of Flagler Beach emailed us just before Irma barreled through the News-Journal readership area with her first-ever bloom on the dragon fruit plant she started two years ago.
