OCALA - A 19-year-old man on probation for burglary and possession of burglary tools was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, driving on a suspended license and fleeing and eluding.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy saw the driver of a white Toyota commit a minor traffic violation and tried to stop the vehicle. The driver sped off.
During a pursuit, which reached speeds of 95 mph and 105 mph going east on State Road 200, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a curb and street sign as he tried to enter the Paddock Mall in the 3100 block of Southwest 32nd Avenue.
The driver, Anthony D. Davis of Orlando, was detained by deputies.
Deputies discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from Altamonte Springs and that Davis did not have a valid driver’s license.
Davis was arrested at 4:10 a.m. and was taken to the Marion County Jail. State records show his probation began in April and was supposed to end in April 2020.
