Local brewery earns prestigious medal at the largest commercial competition in the world
A Sarasota brewery brought home a medal from one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the country.
Big Top Brewing Co. won a silver medal for its Ringmaster Raspberry Berliner at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver over the weekend. The beer is a German-style wheat ale brewed with raspberries.
The GABF says it is the largest commercial beer competition in the world. This year, more than 2,000 breweries entered 7,923 beers in 98 categories covering 161 styles.
Six other Florida breweries won medals. Brew Hub in Lakeland won gold medals for Three Tun and Rome City IPA; Funky Buddha Brewery in Fort Lauderdale won a silver for No Crusts; LauderAle in Fort Lauderdale won gold for C Porter; Pinellas Ale Works in St. Petersburg won silver for Milk Bone; Six Ten Brewing in Tampa won gold for Mischievous Black; and Walking Tree Brewery in Vero Beach won bronze for Duke Snider's Imperial Stout.
Big Top says Ringmaster Raspberry Berliner is available at ABC, Total Wine and several independent liquor stores in four-packs.
Big Top is only the third local brewery to win at GABF, according to the festival. Bradenton's Motorworks Brewing won a bronze medal for its VTwin Vienna-style lager in 2014 and the Sarasota Brewing Co. brewpub won a bronze in 1998 for its Sequoia Amber Lager.
