OCALA - A traffic stop by an Ocala Police Department officer on Monday night led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man on charges of possession of a firearm and marijuana.

Kyle Novak, driving a Lexus, was pulled over by Sgt. Ron Malone in the 1500 block of South Pine Avenue because the vehicle had faulty tail lights.

When officers searched the vehicle, they recovered a loaded .22-caliber Jennings firearm and a loaded .380-caliber Bersa in the glove compartment. A small amount of marijuana in a plastic bag was found in the glove box and body armor was found in the trunk. The body armor had been reported stolen to OPD last month.

Detectives Richard Tuck and Brandon Sirolli interviewed Novak, who told them he had fired the guns at a gun range. Novak was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon/delinquent and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.

Records show Novak has a guilty disposition from earlier this year and was arrested last month or lewd and lascivious battery and fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer.
