A 61-year-old DeLand-area man was killed Friday afternoon in Lake County after turning his van into the path of an oncoming SUV, troopers said.
Shortly after 3 p.m., Donald Styer was driving a 2005 Dodge van heading west on County Road 42 when he attempted to make a left turn onto 3rd Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A crash report states that Styer's van crossed into the path of a 2005 Jeep, which was heading east on C.R. 42.
The Jeep, driven by Loren Dunton, 70, smashed into Styer's van, troopers said.
Styer was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. Dunton, of Orange City, suffered minor injuries.
Sgt. Kim Montes, a FHP spokeswoman, said Styer lived on 3rd Street. The crash remains under investigation.
