MULBERRY — A Plant City motorcyclist was killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on west State Road 60 in Mulberry, causing traffic to be diverted for about four hours.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday that Terrance Slater, 43, of Plant City, was driving a 1996 Kawasaki motorcycle west on S.R. 60 at a high rate of speed. According to PCSO spokesman Brian Bruchey, an eastbound 2016 Ford F350 flatbed truck, driven by Matthew Devera, 31, of Plant City, was attempting to make a left turn onto Nichols Road and Slater’s motorcycle struck the passenger-side door of Devera’s Ford — ejecting him from the bike.
Slater died at the scene, Bruchey said in the report, and his next of kin was notified. Traffic in the area was diverted while deputies conducted an investigation.
In a written report, Bruchey stated that Slater was wearing a helmet and Devera was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
