CLERMONT – Clermont is a long way from South America for Brazilians Gustavo and Angela Szriber, but when the couple were looking to get back into the restaurant business, this hilly little city felt right.
“We came here and felt at home,” said Guastavo. “The food is very similar to the food in Brazil. They eat rice and beans every day. We saw the lakes and all, how beautiful it was. I bought it and we came here.”
Troy's Cuban Deli, 1200 Oakley Seaver Dr., Suite 113, opened 10 years prior under the ownership of Troy Heistand. Sziber bought the Miami-style Cuban restaurant two years ago and is serving up the same menu the original owner found success with.
Matt Moore of Clermont said he eats at Troy's once or twice a week.
“I love the food here,” Moore said, adding that he often orders the shredded pork. “I really like everything I've had here. I've even had it catered.”
Gustavo said everything that comes out of the kitchen is homemade and authentically Cuban. Angela makes the desserts every day, including tiramisu, flan, chocolate cake and chocolate flan.
Drinks include Latin favorites such as Malta soda and Cuban espresso, as well as fountain drinks.
Specialties include the pressed Cuban sandwich, or course, with roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard, along with variations, including the Media Noche, which is the same but on a sweet roll. The South Beach is a lighter sandwich with turkey, avocado, roasted peppers, cucumbers and a creamy mojito. Burgers include the Miami Burger with pulled pork, ham, cheese and a mayo ketchup sauce or the Cuban Burger with chorizo, caramelized onions and Julian's secret sauce.
Other specialties include the shredded pork and roasted chicken with mojo.
There is seating for those that want to eat in, and catering is available. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
