The 20-year-old was involved in a dispute with a relative, according to the Sheriff's Office.

SARASOTA COUNTY -- Deputies say they have arrested the man who fired a gun last week at Urfer Family Park.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, a man, later identified as Amir Melendez, 20, and a relative were in a dispute March 8 at the park at 4000 Honore Ave. when Melendez fired several shots from a handgun at about 4:30 p.m. Melendez fled and deputies were unable to find him.

On March 9 the Sheriff's Office received a tip that Melendez was involved in the case. After further investigation, he was arrested.

Melendez, who is charged with discharging a firearm in a public place, remains in the Sarasota County jail on $10,000 bail. He is also facing unrelated, outstanding charges of attempted burglary, aggravated stalking and contempt of court from the Sarasota Police Department.
