St. Patrick's Day specials plus details on new family restaurant in Bayshore Gardens
In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, all locations of Sarasota-based Gecko’s Grill & Pub are offering a menu in keeping with the Emerald Isle and, of course, special liquid libations during regular hours on Saturday.
The farm fresh cabbage accompanying entrees is grown in Sarasota especially for Gecko’s by their fourth-generation sustainable farm partner, Honeyside Farms. The local farmer also provides the restaurants with other produce (squash, cukes, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries) during the entire growing season.
Naturally, corned beef and cabbage ($13.95) is on the Irish menu, plus shepherd’s pie ($12), Irish lamb stew ($12) or a combo platter comprising all of the above ($15.95). Customers also may order from the regular menu.
Guinness ($6) and $8 shots of Jameson will be offered at all of the Gecko's pubs and Harp will also be offered at Fruitville Gecko's. For locations, visit geckosgrill.com.
Scarpino’s Family Restaurant
Brothers Rocco and Frank Scarpino have transformed the former Mama Onesti’s into Scarpino’s family restaurant in Bayshore Gardens, Bradenton. The two have 50 years combined experience in the restaurant field in Italy, Germany and the original Mama Onesti’s. Their family crest hangs in a museum in Florence, Italy.
The brothers have remodeled the interior with attractive blue pendant lights and wine racks in a main dining room plus a lounge with full bar and patio accommodating 150 guests. There also is space for private events.
The “old school” family recipes include locally sourced ingredients with dishes created by Rocco made from scratch.
Scarpino’s ambitious menu includes an array of appetizers; seven salads; seafood, veal and chicken entrees; over 20 pastas, plus numerous pizza variations, burgers, sandwiches at lunch and seven desserts. Among signature dishes are a spinach, bean and sausage appetizer; snapper Francese; veal chop Milanese and pasta portobello with sausage. For dessert, Frank recommends the amaretto cream cake or tiramisu with strawberries.
Scarpino’s, at 6152 14th St. W., is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and may be reached at 941-756-8100 or online at scarpinosfamilyrestaurant.com
