The man's 10-foot dingy became disabled in the rough weather.

CORTEZ -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a boater who became trapped under the Bradenton pier on Sunday.

According to a news release, Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a call at about 11 a.m. reporting that a boater in a 10-foot dingy was clinging to the pier and needed help. The boater said his engine was disabled and he could not paddle due to high winds and rough seas.

A 29-foot Coast Guard boat responded and towed the boater to the Bridge Tender Inn pier. He was not injured.

"We want to remind mariners to check the weather, and know your boat's limitations before heading out on the water," said Richard T. Hutchinson, a search and rescue coordinator at Sector St. Petersburg.
