Baptist Clay Medical Center is inviting community leaders and physicians to take a virtual reality tour Thursday of its new outpatient 17,000-square-foot Surgery Center being built on Fleming Island.

They can don virtual reality goggles for the tour from 4-7 p.m. at the medical center, 1771 Baptist Clay Drive at U.S. 17 and Village Square Parkway.

Baptist Health officials said when construction is completed in late fall, the facility will give Clay County residents a convenient option for having surgical procedures without having to travel far from home.

The $11.7 million facility will be a a technologically advanced outpatient surgery center. Its features will include two large state-of-the-art operating suites, nine large private patient rooms and a centralized high-tech sterilization center to enhance patient safety. There also will be a spacious procedural suite for minor procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies and urologic surgeries, according to Baptist Health.

Baptist Clay Medical Center opened in 2013. It includes an adult and pediatric 24/7 ER, diagnostic and full imaging capabilities and adult and pediatric outpatient specialty care.
