They had been contacting each other through social media prior to meeting and the 12-year-old girl went willingly with the 18-year-old boy.

MILTON — Emily Navarro, 12, of Navarre, who went missing May 14 has been safely found in Alabama.

Authorities have arrested 18-year-old Jeremy Acevedo Sierra and charged him with tampering with child custody. However, according to Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson, more charges could be pending in the ongoing investigation.

On May 14 at 5:30 p.m., Navarro went missing from her Navarre home. The next day authorities located her on Interstate 65 near Montgomery, Ala., in a black Honda Civic that Sierra was allegedly driving.

Navarro returned home and authorities took Sierra into custody. He’s currently being held in Alabama.

“The child was unharmed,” Johnson said.

It is unknown where Navarro and Sierra were going at the time of the arrest. Johnson said authorities believe they had been contacting each other through social media prior to meeting and Navarro went willingly with Sierra.

SRSO worked with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI, and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation on the case.
