Two former St. Augustine residents are among three people found shot to death Monday afternoon in a home in the Bent Mountain area of Roanoke County, Va., according to family members.
An 18-year-old Virginia man is under arrest in the case, according to the Roanoke County Police Department.
Brandon D. Dekle, 20, and Cole P. Kennedy, 21, were found dead with 18-year-old Miranda B. Trump of Roanoke in the home, Roanoke police said.
Dekle’s mother told Times-Union news partner First Coast News her son had moved to Virginia several years ago with best friend Kennedy, also originally from St. Augustine.
Trevor E. Charles of Roanoke has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three more of use of firearm in the commission of a felony and remains, police said.
The investigation began Monday afternoon when Trump's father began searching for her after being unable to contact her, police said. He found her empty car crashed down an embankment on Honeysuckle Road in the Bent Mountain area and contacted police to report her missing.
Officers ended up at a home nearby and went in when no one answered to find the bodies, police said. No motive was provided.
All three victims worked for the Bent Mountain Bistro, which organized a vigil in their honor and posted a long memorial on its website.
"Words cannot fully express our sadness over losing three members of our Bistro family so tragically," the memorial said in part. "We are devastated as is our entire mountain community."
