Police charged Johnson with larceny after they said she returned to the crime scene, her car full of shopping-spree loot
A Gainesville woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say she stole a woman’s wallet and made fraudulent purchases, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report.
Tiffany Ann Johnson, 35, went to Ideal Image, at 5236 SW 34th St., for a laser hair treatment consultation with her mother Tuesday morning.
The victim put her wallet in her purse on a desk in a back office, which is near the business’s bathroom. Johnson went to the bathroom and shortly after left with her mother. Johnson and her mother were the only people to come in the office between 10 and 11:30 a.m.
At 11:40, the victim learned that her wallet was missing. The wallet, worth $350, had the victim’s debit card and two credit cards.
Johnson made three purchases at a jewelry/pawn store using one of the victim’s credit cards and tried to make two more on the debit card and another card. Johnson went to the Oaks Mall and used the victim’s cards at Victoria’s Secret, Claire’s and Finish Line. She spent about $1,000.
Johnson had another follow-up appointment at Ideal Image Tuesday at 5 p.m. GPD officers met Johnson when she returned to the business, the victim's wallet and bags in the car she was driving.
She was charged with larceny and fraud and was held in the Alachua County Jail, bond set at $20,000.
