Wizard of Oz Train Ride
Take a ride over the rainbow with The Wizard of Oz train ride through June 24. The trip begins in Tavares with boarding in Wooten Park. Munchkinland is where you meet the beloved characters in the classic story. Then, board The Emerald City Special and help Dorothy and her friends defeat the Wicked Witch before arriving at the Emerald City where the Wizard of Oz is awaiting with a live stage show before traveling back to Tavares. The experience lasts about two hours. Check in beings 90 minutes before the show and you need to check in at least 30 minutes before show time. Parking is free at the Lake County Parking Garage. Juneteenth Maker Day
The Leesburg Center for the Arts celebrates Juneteenth Maker Day from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. View films about slave life before the emancipation, learn about the Florida Underground Railroad, create Abayomi Rag Doll and Adinkra symbol stamp art. Open to ages 5 to 18, ages 5 to 12 must come with adult. Free.
Annual Juneteenth Carnival Celebration hosted by the West Leesburg Community Development Corp. begins at 11 a.m. and goes to 2 p.m. Saturday at Berry Park on Johns Avenue in the Carver Heights community. The celebration includes free food, games, face paining, dancing, singing, mobile art studio and the spoken word. There will be a train ride for the kids.
Lake Eustis Museum of Art Summer 2018 exhibition
Meet the local artists at the Lake Eustis Museum of Art opening reception of the Summer Exhibition 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the museum, 1 W. Orange Ave., Eustis. The exhibition features artists from Central Florida including Kelley Batson-Howard, Odalys Garcia, Richard Schuchman and Aimée Wheaton.
Summer Shenanigans Improv
Vaudeville Performing Arts presents Summer Shenanigans, An Improv Comedy Show at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Starlight Ballroom, 414 W. Main St. in Leesburg.
