PGA professional John Reger has been named Oak Hall girls golf coach.

Reger, who coached at Saint Francis previously for three years, recently started up a golf program at Florida Gateway College. In between, he also served as golf coach at Hillsborough Community College.

An award-winning teacher and coach, Reger has taught thousands of students from the novices to PGA professionals and has had numerous articles published in Golfweek, Golf Digest and PGA Magazine.

Reger inherits a program that has four returning players from last year’s squad that finished as district runner-up and fifth at regionals.

“I am both excited and honored to have the privilege to serve as the varsity girls golf coach at Oak Hall,” Reger said. “For nearly 40 years as a PGA golf professional, I have dedicated a great deal of time and energy to the promotion of junior golf.

“I look forward to a great fall season working with our team, parents, faculty and staff.”

Jeff Malloy, Oak Hall athletic director, said Reger’s credentials will fit in well with the Eagles.

“We are so thrilled to have John join our Oak Hall family,” Malloy said. “At Oak Hall, we strive to do everything with excellence and the addition of John shows our commitment to that goal.

“He brings so much to our young golf program. His presence, teaching and coaching ability, as well as professionalism is going to provide our student golfers with a tremendous opportunity.”
