Fun events in Sarasota and Manatee counties including free activities for the whole family

1. Free day at Warm Mineral Springs Park

Here’s one for the locals. Daily admission will be waived at Warm Mineral Springs Park for all Sarasota County residents on Saturday. The spring stays at 85 degrees year-round and contains about 50 minerals, among the highest mineral content of any natural spring in the country. 2. 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' at Nathan Benderson Park

One of the best and most beloved action-adventure films ever made, the first film in the Indiana Jones franchise stars Harrison Ford as pistol and whip-wielding archaeologist Indiana Jones, who fights Nazis for the Ark of the Covenant. There's humor and romance, too, with Karen Allen as Jones' ex-lover Marion Ravenwood. 3. Celebrate Downtown Venice Day

While historic downtown Venice undergoes a beautification project to alleviate drainage problems and upgrade streets, community leaders are hosting a celebration Saturday with lots of activities including free 45-minute trolley tours, bike tours, face painting, extended happy hours at various restaurants bars as well as wine tasting events at Cafe Longet, Olive Grove Wine Bar and the Zebra Piano Bar Lounge from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The festivities start at noon on Saturday; downtown Venice; 941-484-6722;

4. Sarasota Farmers Market's Woodstock Revival

For the second year now the sound and spirit of the The Woodstock Music & Art Fair of 1969 and subsequent film and soundtrack album that in many ways defined a generation will permeate the downtown Sarasota Farmers Market. Festivities include live music by Paisley Craze, "Best Dressed Hippie" costume contest, tiny house expo, children's activities. 5. Back to School Bash with Sarasota Jungle Gardens

As school days rapidly approach, Jungle Gardens has invited children to enter for free with the purchase of a full-priced adult admission. Family fun includes feeding flamingos, holding alligators, attending interactive animal shows and enjoying all those acres of tropical paradise with plenty of shade tucked away right in the city. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 12); Sarasota Jungle Gardens; 3701 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota.
