SARASOTA COUNTY — A three-vehicle accident shut down northbound traffic lanes Saturday morning on Interstate 75 near Venice, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to the report, John McNitt, 44, of Sarasota was attempting to merge north onto I-75 around 9 a.m. at mile marker 193 when he lost control of his Chevrolet Silverado due to high speeds and wet conditions. McNitt's truck spun out and collided with Marcelo Gallardo Rios, 47, of Palmetto, who was traveling north on I-75 in the center lane in his International truck.
After the impact, McNitt's truck then struck Kimm Kauffman, 23, of Coral Springs, who was traveling in north in the left lane of I-75 in a Honda Civic.
Following the accident, northbound traffic was forced to leave the Interstate as the accident scene was processed and cleared.
McNitt suffered minor injuries and taken to Venice Regional Hospital.
Neither Rios nor Kauffman and her passenger, Kyle Laingor, 25, of Coral Springs, were injured in the accident.
McNitt was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
