A Bartow man was injured in a four-vehicle crash on I-75 Thursday morning.
Mark Peterson, 68, of Tampa, was driving a 1999 Lincoln Town Car eastbound on Fowler Avenue to the entrance of northbound I-75.
Peterson began to accelerate to enter I-75 and lost control, rotating into the path of a 2012 Nissan SUV driven by Eric Hill, 36, of Bartow, according to a news release from Sgt. Steve Gaskins, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.
The two vehicles collided, sending Hill's Nissan into the guardrail and barrier wall, and Peterson into the path of a 2015 Buick Encore driven by Danielle Blackwell, 26, of Riverview, the FHP report said. Blackwell attempted to stop and was struck from behind by a 2011 Kia Soul driven by Maria Rodriguez Esquivel, 21, of Dover — sending Blackwell's Buick to the shoulder of the road, where it then struck the outside barrier wall, while Esquivel's Kia hit Peterson's Lincoln, Gaskins said.
Hill was taken to Florida Hospital in Tampa for treatment of minor injuries, he said. The other three drivers sustained minor injuries but did not go to the hospital.
Peterson was cited for careless driving, Gaskins said.
