Community With A Heart was organized by the Ocala Star-Banner more than three decades ago. It is now operated by a board of representatives from 14 community agencies.

Recipients are people willing to provide for themselves but who have experienced a financial set-back. Those seeking help must contact one of the member agencies. Grants are capped at $1,200 and are only distributed after each case has been verified. The grant program runs from late November to early January each year, but donations are accepted year-round.
