Victim, 66, uses a wheelchair

SILVER SPRINGS SHORES — A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a 41-year-old man on Thursday and accused him of physically assaulting a 66-year-old woman who is a fellow resident at an assisted living facility.

Kenneth Michael Zottoli told Deputy Chase King on Thursday that he used his fingernails to grab the victim's arms, which broke her skin. He said he wasn’t sure if the victim, who uses a wheelchair, had touched him, according to an arrest affidavit.

The victim told the deputy she was watching television when Zottoli grabbed her arms. She said she was unable to escape because Zottoli held onto her.

Witnesses told the deputy the victim was in the living room watching television when Zottoli grabbed her shirt collar and pulled it down, exposing her brassiere. He then grabbed her arms. The witnesses said they were able to separate the two and Zottoli was taken outside, the affidavit said.

The deputy said the woman’s arms had lacerations and skin was hanging from the bloody wounds. Medical officials treated the victim.

The owner of the facility, located at 10 Almond Place, told the deputy that earlier that day, Zottoli had approached the victim from behind and made motions as if he was going to hit her. The owner said Zottoli and the victim live at the facility.

Zottoli was charged with battery on a person older than 65 and transported to the Marion County Jail, where bail was set at $1,000. His court date is 9 a.m. Feb. 12.
