The West Augustine Improvement Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Collier-Blocker-Puryear Park, 10 North Holmes Blvd. The nonprofit organization was established in 1956 by Nellie Meade. A membership drive is being held for those interested in being in a hands-on organization that has truly stood the test of time.
Congratulations to Derry Greene
The Department of Florida Fifth District Commander of the Year Award has been bestowed upon Derry Greene, Commander of American Legion Post 194. Greene is most deserving of this award — always moving forward, always positive, always inspiring.
Aug. 16: American Legion Post 194 will host Bowls of Soul. All dinners are $12 and come with two side items, a dinner roll and dessert. Meats to choose from include either ribs or chicken. Bowls available include beef-o-roni or pig tails and rice for $5. Also available are fish sandwiches, shrimp and fries.
Every Friday night from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. is happy hour at the Post. American Legion Post 194 is located at 1029 West Pearl St.
Aug. 24: Writer Halaveshia S. Scott is bringing her book tour to St. Augustine from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 24. Scott will be discussing and signing her most recent book, "I'm Praying With You." Items needed for homeless
St. Paul AME Church is requesting donations of personal care items to be offered to those in need. Items needed include socks, wet wipes, tissues, sanitary pads/tampons, toothbrushes and toothpaste, nail clippers, bandages, lip balm, combs or small hairbrushes, cotton swabs, sample soap and shampoo from hotel stays, wash cloths, disposable razors (male and female), shaving cream, deodorant, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, mints, cough drops or gum, anti-bacterial lotion, sunscreen or one-gallon sealable plastic storage bags. Donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday at St. Paul AME Church office. Donations will be distributed to our homeless brothers and sisters on the third Monday of every month as part of the Feed the Hungry program. Wildflower Healthcare holds medical clinics at 3 p.m. Thursdays and 8 a.m. Saturdays. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis on Thursdays and doors open at 8 a.m. on Saturdays. Lab results are available from 1:30 and 3 p.m. Wednesdays, seven days after procedures. Dates and hours for results clinics are subject to change. Dental Clinics are now scheduled. Those who are seeking dental assistance must call in to be added to the schedule.
