Things to do in and around Wellington:


1. Tennis fun. Wellington will have a free Back-to-School Tennis Bash from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wellington Tennis Center, 3100 Lyons Road. There will be games, drills, giveaways and a pizza party. The event will showcase Wellington’s new after-school Youth Tennis Program. Children will be grouped into three age groups: 4 to 6, 7 to 10 and 11 and older. Participants should wear appropriate athletic attire and tennis shoes, and should bring hydration and sunscreen. Gatorade will be provided, and Whit’s Frozen Custard and Chick-fil-A will provide free samples. For more information, call 561-791-4775.


2. Amphitheater entertainment. Free, family-friendly events are scheduled Thursday through Saturday at the Wellington Amphitheater, 12100 Forest Hill Blvd. For all events, bring your own seating. For more information and possible weather-related cancellations, go to www.wellingtonfl.gov.


Thursday: The next installment of Wellington’s food trucks and free concert series features a performance from rock band The Flyers at 6:30 p.m. Food trucks are on site from 5 to 9:30 p.m.


Friday: There will be a free showing the movie “Dumbo” (PG) at 8 p.m.


Saturday: There will be a free concert from Tom Petty tribute band The Petty Hearts at 8 p.m.


3. Be a smart driver. Brush up on your driving skills and maybe even get an insurance discount with the AARP’s Smart Driving Course, offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 Forest Hill Blvd. The class is open to ages 50 and older and is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.
