U.S. Rep. John Rutherford presented the South Korean Ambassador’s Peace Medal to several Korean War veterans living at Fleet Landing on Wednesday.

Rutherford recognized Gene Alvarez, Charles Williamson, Duane St. John and the late Charles Steck, whose wife Peggy Steck accepted his award.

The congressman attended a luncheon with the veterans and their families prior to the presentation. During the luncheon the medal recipients shared some of their stories about the Korean War.

After the presentation, Rutherford shared some of his own stories and talked about his experiences in the House of Representatives. The congressman also discussed some of the current issues facing the nation.
