Former ERAU professor Mark Fugler exposed himself, tried to get 7-year-old girl to touch his genitals
DAYTONA BEACH — A former Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University professor was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual misconduct with a child, according to prosecutors.
Mark Fugler, 61, of Ormond Beach, was convicted of three counts each of lewd and lascivious exhibition, lewd and lascivious conduct and showing obscene materials to a minor. Fugler had faced up to 105 years in prison.
Once he is released from prison, Fugler must register as a sex offender.
Fugler, who had no prior criminal record and has two adult children with his wife of nearly 38 years, was an engineering professor at Embry-Riddle when he was arrested on Nov. 4, 2016, by Ormond Beach police.

The girl was 7-years-old in 2016 when she said that Fugler had shown her obscene material, exposed himself to her and attempted to have her touch his genitals, prosecutors said. The youngster’s mother learned of the offenses on Sept. 28, 2016, when she found a diary kept by the girl.
Fugler filed a lawsuit against ERAU in 2017 for suspending him without pay. That lawsuit was on hold awaiting the results of the criminal case, according to court records. The case remains open.
Assistant State Attorneys Ashley Terwilleger and Andrew Urbanak prosecuted Fugler before Senior Judge R. Michael Hutcheson.
