Police have cleared the area; the subject is still at large.

The North Port Police Department warned residents yesterday that there was a high police presence in the South Cranberry Lane and Spice Lane area, because "a wanted individual has fled on foot," according to a Facebook post.

According to the post, the North Port Police established a perimeter and were not allowing children at Cranberry Elementary School to walk or ride home alone. Parent pick-up and busses proceeded as normal.

They also asked nearby residents to "please lock your doors and stay inside your residence until we give the all clear."

Police identified Robert Steven Harrelson, 41, as the individual they were searching for. According to police, he is "wanted on multiple felonies for drugs and weapons."

At 5: 36 p.m. Thursday evening, Sarasota County Schools reported that all regular students had left Cranberry Elementary. Just before 9 p.m., North Port Police reported that units had cleared the area after exhausting their investigative leads and with Harrelson still at large.
