Demolition is underway for a vacant building in a prime oceanfront locale in Jacksonville Beach to be turned into a hotel, restaurant and additional retail and office space.
The property at 221 First St. near the SeaWalk Pavilion has long had a vacant building at the site. In its place, a new 25,000-square-foot building will be constructed, announced 221 Surfside Holdings, the company that owns the property.
A boutique hotel is planned for on the second floor. The first floor will include about 6,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space while another 8,000 square feet will be available for office space when the project is completed in 2020.
“This property has so much history and in an effort to revitalize Jacksonville Beach, we are committed to it’s redevelopment,” said Jean Bakkes, CEO of skyEnterprises, headquartered in Neptune Beach under the same owners as 221 Surfside.
