Adoption fees will be waived as animal services officials attempt to make room for new adoptable pets.
Alachua County Animal Services will host its annual "Summer Lovin'" Adoption Event, waiving all adoption fees on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The goal, aided by veterinary students from the University of Florida's student chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, is to make room at the shelter for new adoptable animals, a news release about the event said.
Adoption applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. All adoptable pets will have received basic health exams and vaccinations. All dogs and cats adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, the release said.
Adopters must be 18 or older and show ID with proof of current address. If there are already pets in the home, the adopter must show proof that their animals are current on rabies shots and pet licenses. All dogs and cats available for adoption are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped.
