The threat of Hurricane Dorian kept things up in the air

For a while, it looked like the threat of Hurricane Dorian would mean no football this week in Marion County.

On Labor Day public schools either cancelled or postponed games, and then St. John and OCA followed suit on Tuesday.

Trinity Catholic held out before deciding Tuesday night to move Friday’s scheduled home game with Mount Dora to Saturday at 10 a.m.

And then on Wednesday, a few others resuscitated their matchups. Now, joining the Celtics on Saturday morning will be West Port at Forest (junior varsity at 9 a.m. with varsity following) and Lake Weir at Brooksville Hernando (10 a.m.).

Soon after, the Crystal River at Dunnellon game was announced as being back on with a 6 p.m. Saturday kickoff scheduled.

Also, OCA’s game with visiting Bronson is back on for Friday at 7 p.m. And Belleview will host Brooksville Central on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Other schools are looking to reschedule contests, but as of this writing, only Gainesville at 2018 FHSAA Class 5A state runner-up North Marion (now Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m.) has been announced.
