Jacksonville area children got a longer than expected Labor Day weekend break from school when Hurricane Dorian came through this week, canceling classes. Duval County School District resumes classes Friday.

For students relishing an extra-long break that stretched beyond the Labor Day holiday weekend, all good things must come to an end.

Except for Baker County, which will welcome students back on Thursday, other school districts in Northeast Florida will be taking Thursday to take stock of campuses and clean up schools used as emergency shelters in order to resume classes on Friday.

DUVAL

Superintendent Diana Greene said classes will be back on Friday. Year-round school district employees and essential personnel will be working Thursday to check the condition of all schools and then focus efforts on cleaning up schools used as emergency evacuation shelters. Greene said Friday night football games will be rescheduled.

CLAY

The Clay County School District announced Thursday that students will return Friday for classes.

ST. JOHNS

All schools and the district office will be open on Friday to resume normal operations.

NASSAU

Nassau County School District schools will reopen on Friday.

BAKER

Baker County School District schools will reopen on Thursday for normal operations.

PUTNAM

Putnam County schools will reopen on Friday.
