Anyone inclinded to want to fight through a hurricane to get their nails done was in luck in the Baymeadows area.

Ladies ... if you're desperate for that manicure, pedicure or a waxing, there was a place open Wednesday while wind and rain from Hurricane Dorian was lashing the Baymeadows area.

9A and Bay, a salon that has been open for six months on Baymeadows Road near R.G. Skinner Road, was open for business at 9:30 a.m.

Shortly before noon, however, there was a lack of customers. Owner Vincent Tran was sitting by the cash register watching hurricane coverage on TV. He had two employees on duty, Rose Vu and May Gian, who were giving each other manicures.

"There was no reason not to be open," he said. "We had nothing else to do and we had power. I don't know when we'll close. I'll have to see if we get any customers."

Tran said he was closed Tuesday because he couldn't get enough technicians to work. They were at home making hurricane preparations.

But he said all of the services would be available to anyone who walks in on Wednesday. Closing time is usually 7:30 p.m.
