Ben White is not what I was expecting. Though he’s a self-proclaimed folk singer-songwriter, his music spans a more dynamic sound than the genre suggests, some tracks reflect a deeper, darker sentiment than your Pete Seegers and your Joan Baezes, and some sound outright poppy. His tunes have a more bluesy sound heavily rooted in old country, especially the opening track to his 2009 E.P., “We Will Fly.” Now, it’s been nearly a decade since his last release, so it is possible (or downright probable), that his style has changed with the times, but as for what he has up on the internet, it’s really great, soulful music, and I for one can’t wait to hear what he’s had cooking all this time.

Check him out, Saturday, along with Baer & The Lady and K.UTIE at the GNV Listening Room, starting at 6:30 p.m.
