Spaghetti and meatball dinner
There will be a spaghetti and meatball dinner from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church, 4047 NE 21st St., Ocala. Dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, Italian sausage, garlic knots, bread, salad, iced tea and dessert. Cost is $9.

Ocala Jazz Society
The Ocala Jazz Society will play its monthly concert from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 15 at the (smoke-free) VFW Post 4781, 9401 SW 110th St., Ocala, across from Oak Run. Auditions for "The Savannah Sipping Society" will be held at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Ocala Civic Theatre, 4337 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. In this show, four unique Southern women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Actors will be asked to read selected scenes from the script at auditions. It is only necessary to attend one session. No experience necessary. Newcomers and theater veterans alike are welcome. If you are unable to attend the scheduled auditions, please contact the theater to make a separate appointment. History lecture series
The Marion County Museum of History and Archaeology presents a historical lecture series. All programs will be presented on the third Sunday of odd months, at 2 p.m. in Green Clover Hall, 319 SE 26th Terrace, Ocala. A reception follows at East Hall. Flea control study
Paddock Park Animal Care Center has been selected to participate in a national clinical study to evaluate a new flea control medication for dogs. Participating households will receive free flea treatments, and free study-related exams, for all dogs in their household for up to 3 months. If you think your dog has fleas and has yet to be treated, you may be eligible to enroll your pets in the study.
