Florida Highway Patrol says Shawn Pearson, 23, fled the scene of a car accident on Saturday afternoon.

A Fort White man involved in a Columbia County car crash Saturday afternoon tried to flee the scene rather than rendering aid on others who sustained injuries.

Shawn Pearson, 23, was driving northbound on State Road 47, south of Southwest Alice Glen in Lake City at about 1:15 p.m. when his vehicle struck another ahead of it, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Pearson’s Nissan Sentra struck a Toyota Tacoma driven by Thomas Hosford, 70, and Carolyn Hosford, 67, both of Lake City, the release said.

The Tacoma overturned after the Sentra hit its rear, the release said, then traveled off the roadway before hitting an unoccupied parked car in a parking lot.

Pearson, who sustained no injuries, fled the scene on foot before law enforcement found him a short time later, the release said.

Thomas Hosford sustained minor injuries and was taken to Lake City Medical Center for treatment, the release said, while Carolyn Hosford was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
