High Springs police are searching for a man believed to have robbed a pharmacy at gunpoint for drugs.

Several law enforcement agencies are still searching for a man believed to have robbed a High Springs pharmacy for prescription opioids, but a lockdown placed on two area schools has been lifted.

High Springs Chief of Police Antoine Sheppard said the armed robbery took place Wednesday morning at Caring Pharmacy, 19214 NW U.S. Highway 441 #10.

A white man, believed to be between 50 and 60 years old, with a height between 5-foot-8-inches and 5-foot-10-inches entered the pharmacy, held up a gun and took off on foot after taking an undetermined amount of the painkiller Oxycodone, Sheppard said.

High Springs Community School and First Christian Academy were briefly on lockdown status due to their proximity to the robbery location. The suspect is believed to no longer be in the immediate area.

Alachua police and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office are working to help find the suspect.
