Non-medical volunteers are needed to fulfill non-clinical roles at COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites in Jacksonville.

A nonprofit called Remote Area Medical, or RAM, which is helping to recruit volunteers for testing sites across the country, has an immediate need for volunteers ages 18 to 65.

All volunteers will be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment.

A medical background is not required to volunteer in support roles, which include performing initial eligibility screening, checking IDs, confirming appointments, obtaining patient consent, assembling specimen kits, assisting with registration, delivering kits to vehicles, directing traffic and helping other volunteers put on and take off protective gear.

"This is a great opportunity for individuals at home who want to join in the efforts against COVID-19 in their local community," said RAM CEO Jeff Eastman.

People who have — or live with someone who has — coronavirus, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, lung disease or immunosuppression, fever or an illness should not volunteer. Also, people who are nursing or pregnant or live with someone who is should not volunteer.

RAM is also looking for nurses, paramedics and EMTs to fill clinical support roles.
