A man was found shot to death late Monday on Ellis Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

A 33-year-old man is dead after a late Monday shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Officers and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were called to the 600 block of South Ellis Road about 11:45 p.m. after a report of a shooting. They found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, the police report said. He was declared dead at the scene just north of Interstate 10, Sgt. Ed Bawroski said.

"We believe it occurred here," Bawroski said.

Someone heard the shooting and called police, but there were no witnesses to indicate what happened, Bawroski said. Shell casings were found at the scene.
