Seven women say Thomas Lohstreter, 70, fondled or sexually battered them during examinations.

An Englewood doctor was arrested Tuesday on charges he sexually abused his patients.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, seven female patients said Thomas Lohstreter, 70, fondled or sexually battered them during examinations at South County Medical Center, 579 S. Indiana Ave., Englewood.

In December a 57-year-old woman reported that during an examination, after a nurse left the exam room, Lohstreter touched her breasts and genitals for an unknown reason. Detectives were alerted to six more patients who reported similar misconduct.

The state suspended Lohstreter’s medical license on March 9 and he is no longer working at the practice.

Lohstreter was arrested and charged with three counts of sexual assault, one count of lewd or lascivious molestation of a disabled person and one count of battery. He remains in the Sarasota County jail without bail.
