PALM COAST — Tensions flared at a Palm Coast doctor’s office Tuesday morning when a woman demanded test results for her son.

The Palm Coast woman shoved a nurse and refused to leave when she couldn’t get the test results, then turned her ire on a sheriff’s deputy when officers tried to remove her, according to an arrest report.

Claudia Isabel Avello Munoz, 51, was arrested and charged with battery on an emergency medical care provider, trespassing after warning and resisting arrest with violence – aggravated assault. She remained in jail Wednesday on $5,500 bail, booking records showed.

The incident unfolded late Tuesday morning at Florida Health Care Plan, a Blue Cross Blue Shield pharmacy, at 309 Palm Coast Parkway NE. According to an arrest report, Avello Munoz argued with nurses when they wouldn’t tell the woman her 18-year-old son’s test results. It was not clear what kind of testing he had.

When the nurses told Avello Munoz she had to wait for her son outside due to COVID-19 safety measures, she became upset and refused to leave the waiting room. At one point during the argument, Avello Munoz pushed one of the nurses on the shoulder and told her she was not 6 feet away, the arrest report states. She then sat down and wouldn’t leave the lobby.

She insisted on staying even when deputies arrived and tried to reason with her, according to the report. Deputies said she then began yelling at an officer and started recording the interaction on her cellphone.

A deputy arrested her for trespassing. As the officer was trying to handcuff her, she pulled away and the deputy used a straight-arm take-down maneuver. While on the floor, Avello Munoz kicked and struggled with the deputy, dug her fingernails into the officer’s arm, and tried to bite him several times, according to the report.

The woman was taken to AdventHealth Palm Coast to be treated for injuries to her arm before being booked into the Flagler County Jail.
