SUV drifted off the road and struck a tree in Columbia County.

Two Dunnellon women were killed and a man was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Columbia County on Friday night.


Florida Highway Patrol troopers said two of three occupants of a sport utility vehicle were airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. One of them, a 30-year-old woman who was a passenger, died at the hospital at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Her name was not released.


The person behind the wheel, identified as a 54-year-old man, was listed in serious condition, according to a FHP press release. His name was not released.


Authorities said the crash occurred along Interstate 75 at mile marker 428 at 8:20 p.m.


Troopers said the SUV was traveling north on I-75 when the vehicle drifted off the roadway. The front of the SUV struck a tree.


A second female passenger was pronounced dead by Colombia County Fire Rescue officials. She was 55. Her name was not released by troopers.


All three were wearing their seat belts, troopers noted. The investigation is ongoing.
