Veterans of theCross, a ministry of the Mount Dora church pastored by Mark Crossman, is continuing its work on behalf of low-income veterans with housing needs.
"We provide the manpower," said ministry lead George Wanberg, a Marine Vietnam veteran, "and Habitat for Humanity provides the materials."
Recent projects include roofing repairs and handicap-accessible remodeling, said Wanberg. If you know a vet who could use that kind of help – or if you'd like to bring your hammer and join the platoon, email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Does our featured veteran from last week have a favorite high school teacher? "Don't make me single one out," he jokingly complained to an interviewer. Then he started naming names: "Sharon Hayes, Rena Poole, Lillie Mosley, Elsie Broomfield …"

"The Truth will set you free." Jesus said that - as recorded in John 8:32.
But you need a keen sense of humor to survive all the stuff you see on the internet, on its social media sites and even on your television set -- including the news and advertisement blurbs -- when it comes to what’s true and what ain’t true!
Skimming my Facebook feeds daily, I am astounded at the falsehoods and twisted memes I see, designed to grab your attention, and as one of my friends says, "to stir up the pot."
I belong to and administrate several Facebook groups – community, school and military oriented. Although designed to bring people together around a certain community or issue, they are made up of all sorts of people with many different opinions. The first lesson one must learn is, don’t believe everything you see on Facebook, YouTube or the internet in general! Even though some missives may be straightforward and believable, beware: Some individuals, political parties and even foreign governments use social media as a tool to rile folks; to go on the attack.
Be very savvy when on Facebook and following its pages; the same is true with life in general.
Looking for truth? You will find it in God’s Word, my friend. Our Lord was accused often by his adversaries of bearing false testimony, to which he replied, "my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going (John 8:14)."
To His followers, he continued by saying, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples and you will know the truth. And the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32)."
I often advise my friends on Facebook, don’t share or post anything - any meme or link - unless you check it out.
Want to know whether the scriptures are true or not, or about the life directions to which they point? Check it out. CHAPS OUT.
