The Ledger's editorial "Speed kills, except when it doesn’t" [Sept. 21], regarding trucking technology, was spot on.

We have had the technology to govern our trucks for years. In an effort to control fuel and insurance costs, our industry has taken advantage of this technology. Less fuel consumption, better insurance rates and safer highways are a result of the trucking industry policing itself and being proactive in embracing the technology already available.

Another regulation only adds more costs and duplicates what we, as an industry, are already doing. The American Trucking Association and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration have never seen a regulation that they didn't like. Regulations are one thing, but over-regulation is what is being proposed.
