In this country we live under the credo of equality at birth. That is, everyone has the exact same rights and opportunities at the outset.

For those us who live in the real world we know that this is an absolute fantasy. Life is basically a lottery. There are winners, losers and the vast majority of us fall somewhere in between this winner/loser designation. This brings me to the concept of healthcare.

I am firmly convinced that if every Republican Congress “critter” was backed into a corner they would say their healthcare plan is obvious. It is called PYP, “Pick Your Parents.”

When you are born simply make sure that your parents are rich, healthy and preferably have a light complexion. If you take care of these three simple items, you will be amazed at how things just tend to work out well. For example, consider Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. Her major accomplishment in life has basically been showing up.

If you are unlucky at birth, for example, born to minority parents plus blessed with a birth defect, the “Family Values, Christian Morals” bunch in power will kick you to the curb. Maybe even faster than the newest U.S. Supreme Court member, Justice Neil Gorsuch, would escape from frigid, bone-chilling, 14-degree-below-zero weather.

On this latter item please explore Gorsuch and the truck driver case. Gorsuch ruled for the business interest assuming that the truck driver should have frozen to death, protecting the disabled trailer’s load, rather than seek shelter at a gas station. The question never asked is who would steal items from a locked trailer in the early morning hours in January when the ambient temperature was life-threatening?
