President Donald Trump has attempted to make the most important people in the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation subject to a pledge of loyalty to him. His definition of loyalty is that those so bound will block or obfuscate any investigation of unlawful or criminal activity by himself and/or his family.
Even the most naive supporter from his so-called “base” must recognize the inherent dangers to our system of democracy if the president of the United States can manipulate crucial government officers to do his bidding without question.
Fortunately, there are some people, such as Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who are willing to cede their positions in order to protect their personal integrity. Hopefully, we will find more people in government like Sessions. Until then, each of us should strive to protect our democratic form of government.
