In response to Jim Posmer’s March 4 letter, "Democrats care only for their political futures," I would like to set Mr. Posmer straight.

Republicans have a short memory span. The last six years of Barack Obama’s presidency, the Republicans obstructed everything Obama wanted. The biggest travesty was the Republicans refusal to confirm a Supreme Court justice, dragging their feet for nine months. This proved the Republicans were more concerned about political advantage than doing their jobs. Many of them outright said they were going to obstruct.

Republicans could care less about doing what is right. They don’t care about the environment, always pushing for more drilling and fracking, eliminating pollution control, denying climate change, taking away healthcare for millions, breaking up families (deporting parents), thumbing their noses at the Constitution and advocating for more guns (doing nothing to decrease mass shootings), restricting women's rights, giving big tax cuts to corporations and the 1 percent, continuing to chip away at our constitutional rights (advocating for restrictions on protestors and instituting voting rights restrictions in many states), gerrymandering districts to their advantage, being “owned” by the NRA), etc.

Republicans are good at twisted propaganda and “fake news.” They keep repeating the same thing over and over like: “Democrats will take our guns away.” Truth is: Ban on assault weapons, more thorough background checks and waiting periods are not taking our guns away. Georgia is eliminating tax reductions for Delta airlines’ fuel because Delta is standing up to the NRA. Sounds like blackmail to me.

The more I observe Republicans it appears they are brainwashed by the Republican Party. I suggest that a closer look be taken at the history of both parties. And always fact check “false” allegations and half-truths before passing them on as the truth.
