— It’s great news that we can fly to Dallas out of the Gainesville airport now. Unfortunately, it’s still going to be three times as expensive as any place else you can fly out of, mainly Jacksonville and Orlando. That’s too bad. The only people who can afford it are the corporate folks.
— Does Keith Perry pay his GRU bill? Did he read the note that came with the latest bill showing much lower electric rates over the past three years? Or is he too busy running attack ads about the non-existent ice skating rink?
— What’s the deal with Sheriff Sadie Darnell endorsing Andrew Gillum for governor? Did she forget that a couple months ago she endorsed Rick Scott for the Senate against Bill Nelson?
— I can’t believe Republican DeSantis ran negative Gilliam ads during the heat of Hurricane Michael when Gilliam called off his campaign in order to address the concerns of the hurricane in Tallahassee. To top it off, Trump went to a rally in Pennsylvania. Something’s wrong.
— I’ve been going over the issues that are going to be on ballot by reviewing the nonpartisan voter guide. The issues are so complicated and so contradictory that even with the voter guide I can't understand what I’m supposed to be voting on because they aren't written in plain, simple English. I think all voters should vote no on every single issue to send a clear message to the legislators that they shouldn’t bundle and should write these initiative in plain English.
— The Sun’s account of last week’s farm tour concert left no doubt that the event was basically a rowdy beer blast, after which about 13,000 people, many inebriated, drove away onto our public roadways. It’s no wonder I heard sirens wailing after the concert ended. It sounds like a really bad idea.
— Now that 43rd Street has been resurfaced, they’ve replaced the slightly rough road with a smoother road that has large, raised manhole covers almost every 100 yards, which give drivers a nice jolt as they drive down the street. Hopefully, this project is not fully completed yet because they also have a raised turn lane that is uneven with the rest of the road.
— Professional skepticism means keeping your mind and eyes open for fraudulent transactions as well as untruthful comments, misrepresentation and inappropriate behavior. Everyone should apply skepticism to Trump and Kavanaugh’s statements and behaviors and should apply the same skepticism to Trump’s and Rick Scott’s personal finances.
— This violent political attacks and harassment of people who don't agree with you is not acceptable. It’s not polite, and it’s certainly not the Southern way. When the midterm elections come, the silent majority, who don’t spit on, harass, threaten, hurt and lie about people, will be there to vote.
— Churches don’t pay taxes on their property. I’m taxed more to make up for the missing revenue. So why are churches allowed to put partisan election signs on that tax-exempt property?
— Halloween is coming, and it’s a holiday for the children. If you are old enough to drive a car, you’re too old to be out trick-or-treating. If you need candy that bad, go in the store and buy some.
