In response to John Gilboe's letter, while I see his stance and argument as reasonable, I hold a different perspective to some of his claims ["School funding and guns are the real issues," letter, Nov. 30].
Looking at statistics, his claim about schools having poor funding, resulting in issues for teachers being uncompensated is true. However, consider the teacher’s perspective. Many teachers enjoy the ability to connect and nurture bonds with a student, regardless of pay. Considering this, we get a new light on the potential source of the issue, rather than school funding, although it is logical to assume through data of teacher salaries.
Exploring the beliefs in a shooter's head lets us begin to search for a source of the issue. Thinking about the emotional factors that drive a person allow different insights upon the real issues.
