During a middle of the night bathroom trip I stumbled onto the presentation of Steve Scruggs, head of the Lakeland Economic Development Council, to the city commissioners on the LakelandGov TV channel and was surprised to see someone this articulate and intelligent advising them.

How many of the naysayers turned mudslingers have actually attended or viewed his entire presentation before taking both pieces of real estate ("Lakeland proposals ruffle theatre company, golfers," Feb. 28) out of context and jumping on their cellphones to attack the man for what is an admirable piece of futuristic-looking brain power?

Ya gotta start somewhere, and it seems that the least cost-effective (some might label them "socialistic?") pieces of property — nostalgic childhood attachments notwithstanding — are a logical place to begin.
